Digital Art Tutorials

Looking to learn something new? I’ve produced a series of video tutorials and ebooks that reveal the process I use in creating digital artwork. I cover the complete spectrum from innovative ways of developing original ideas to building those ideas and composing them into striking images. I demonstrate the process of using both 3d and 2d techniques, using programs like 3ds Max, Vray and Photoshop.

Dreadnought Tutorial Series

This series will take you through the process of creating a hard surface asset, in this case a space ship. The series begins by discussing a time cutting process I like to call Rapid Symmetry Design. Once the ship is complete the next tutorials will explore different ways you can use the ship we previously created. I will demonstrate the process of creating a matte painting, concept art and in the final tutorial of the series we will discuss the process of creating a 360 VR matte painting. These tutorials will cover many techniques using 3ds Max Vray and Photoshop. By the end of the series, you will have a good understanding of the process I use in creating digital artwork.

Photo Reference Packs

Over the last few years I’ve developed a large library of reference material for environment artists, matte painters and concept artists. I frequently make these available as themed packs via Gumroad. Each pack will typically contain hundreds of high resolution images of a single subject or location. You can view all my available photo packs here.

Trains Snow Gumroad

800+ reference photos taking on a single day in various industrial and snow covered environments. The environments include: Train Tracks, Trains and track Building Material, Industrial building and greenhouses, Bridge / Overpass, Industrial Rooftop Elements, Wasteland Debris, Demolition Site, Ports and Shipping Equipment / Vehicles. This is great photography for concepts and matte paintings that require wasteland / post apocalyptic environments with a cold and abandoned tone. Every location is shot from multiple angles, aiming to acquire complete coverage of the environment. I’ve also included 30 stitched Panoramics. Location – Vancouver, Canada. Image size – 4928 x 3264 (Nikon D7000)
